Here are some common questions about Simply English and our classes.

What do I need to take classes online?

     Software: Simply English uses an online video software known as ZOOM to teach all of its classes. To use this software, our students need access to a computer with a stable internet connection.

     Textbooks: For most courses, a textbook will be included in the price of each class. These will be sent to the student’s given address two weeks before classes begin. Not all courses require a textbook.

     Highly Recommended: Although they are optional, to get the best experience, it is highly recommended that each student has a webcam, so that the teacher can see and interact with the student, and has a headset with a microphone, so that they can speak, and be heard more clearly throughout each class. How much does it cost?

Each course varies in price, and textbooks are not included in the cost of tuition. These prices can be found on each of the course description pages. Each service provided by Simply English can be found on our homepage, or at the top-right of our webpage where it say “Services.” Click on the desired service, and you’ll be taken to a page with a description of each related course, the textbooks required for each course, and the cost. How long will it take to learn English?

Every student learns at a different pace, but generally, most of our students are able to learn high school level English within 2 years, and fluent American English within 3.5 years.

If I am sick, or busy, can we reschedule our lesson?

For private students, you must let us know at least 12 hours in advance if you need to cancel or reschedule a lesson. If you give us only 1-12 hours notice before the lesson is scheduled to begin, we will still have to charge you 50% of the cost for that lesson, in order to pay your instructor. If you give less than one hour notice, or are late to the lesson, then you will still be charged 100% for the lesson.

For students attending group lessons, we will not be able to cancel or reschedule the class for you, but you may take the same lesson with another class, if one is available, and as long as you give us at least 24 hours notice.

Where are the teachers from?

At Simply English, we hire instructors with proven fluency in American English, but also with fluency in your local language for level 1 English courses. This helps you as a student gain a strong foundation in English, but also offers you the comfort and ability to ask questions to your instructor, without the fear or frustration of being misunderstood.

After level 1 English, all other courses and levels are taught by native English speaking Americans, who can not only help you advance your English, but also gain a better understanding of US culture, and improve both your listening and speaking skills.

How do I pay?

Simply English accepts payments online from all major credit cards, including Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, and Union Pay, through Paypal. We know that Paypal is not always accessible to our students in China, so we are also accepting payments through Alipay starting in June 2017.

Payment by check or cash is also available, but only to students within the United States.

Is there a refund policy?

For group lessons, full refunds are given if requested one week or more before classes begin. Afterwards 50% of the tuition may be refunded if requested within one week before or after classes begin. After one week, no refund will be available.*

For private lessons, a full refund for each lesson is available if requested 12 hours or more before the lesson is scheduled to start. Refunds requested 1-12 hours before the scheduled lesson will only be given at 50%. Unfortunately, no refunds will be available after that point.*

*Exceptions: If the teacher, or substitute teacher, is more than 5 minutes 59 seconds late, that lesson will be free, and any funds paid for that one lesson will be refunded to the student, or students parent either immediately for private students, or at the end of the course, in the case of students taking group lessons.

Also, each of our classes are monitored and recorded for quality control, and the safety of our students. If you feel the lesson or instructor was of a poor quality, bring it to our attention by emailing us at Comments@mysimplyenglish.com, or leaving a comment at the end of each lesson through the ZOOM software. Upon review, you may be given a full or partial refund for that lesson.
